The Club was formed on August 9, 1904 as the Centralia Library and Study Club.  The name changed in May 1915 to “Centralia Woman¹s Club” at the request of the State Federation.

In 1904 there were 47 charter members of the club, with the membership limited to 50 persons.  This restriction was removed in 1909.

The club has supported a local High School girl attending Kaskaskia College each year with a scholarship as well as honoring the Outstanding Female Tennis player(s) with a trophy for over 30 years.

Other local projects supported are
People Against Violent Environments (PAVE)
Keep Centralia Beautiful - Clean & Green
Centralia Community Benevolent Association (food pantry).

The club also supports the GFWC Illinois projects -
Shawnee Forest Plantings
Canine Companions
Native American Scholarship
Operation Smile.

The Club hosts the 23rd District GFWC Illinois Board meetings and has had 2 members serve as District President.

Members also attend the GFWC Illinois Summer Seminars as well as the GFWC Illinois Conventions.

The Club celebrated their 100th Anniversary on August 9, 2004.

A successful annual fund raiser has been the “Grocery Raffle”
which helps support the Scholarship to Kaskaskia College.
